The Olympic Council of Asia announced that League of Legends was selected as an official medal sport for the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games.
LoL Esports was featured at the 2018 Jakarta–Palembang Asian Games as a demonstration sport. At the final on August 31, 2018, with intense competition, the China representative team beat the South Korea representative team with a result of 3-1. Uzi and Faker both represented their country at the final.
"League of Legends players from Asia are among the most skilled esports competitors in the world, so it will be a joy to watch them battle it out on Summoner’s Rift while representing their countries. We’re pleased to see LoL Esports serving as a medal sport in the 2022 Asian Games,” said John Needham, Global Head of Esports at Riot Games.
The 19th Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou from September 10-25, 2022. As Asia's largest comprehensive sports event, 45 participating countries/regions will participate in the Hangzhou Asian Games.
