LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, January 8, 2021 - As the 11th professional esports season of League of Legends officially begins, LoL Esports unveiled today that Shenzhen, China, will serve as host city for the most-anticipated match of the year.
As China’s hub for technology and innovation, Shenzhen was a natural fit to host the Finals. Following changes to the Worlds 2020 schedule that resulted in the entire tournament being held in Shanghai, the season-ending League of Legends tournament will return to a multi-city format in 2021 for what is expected to be the largest event in LoL Esports history.

Starting in January, more than 100 teams in 11 regional leagues will begin their journey to represent their region at the 2021 World Championship. LoL Esports and Riot China will announce additional host cities later this year.
The 2020 League of Legends World Championship, which consisted of 114 games played in Shanghai over five weeks, was the most-watched Worlds to date.The Finals match between DAMWON Gaming and Suning saw an Average Minute Audience (AMA) of 23.04 million and 45.95 million Peak Concurrent Viewers (PCU). There were 1+ billion hours of competition watched (Live+24) over the course of the tournament.
